| The
(Ain't Quite) Right Reverend Doctor
Josiah Peacock (Tenor) - A charming and zealous con man of
many talents. Hell-bent on leading his Temperance army to victory, he
is a sanctimonious and passionate preacher, capable of rousing a crowd
into a frenzy, (even when he lapses into double talk). The charming Reverend
Doctor Peacock is also something of a snake oil salesman, peddling Peacock's
Elixir (a bogus cure for alcoholism … and every other ailment, real or
imagined) to anyone with a ready dollar. With aid of Mrs. Bunch, Peacock
founded The Eternal Sword Temperance Union. |

 |
Mrs.
Amelia Braithwaite Bunch (Soprano)
- A wealthy society widow turned rabid reformer in the fashion of Carry
Nation, Mrs. Bunch is a stern, imposing and determined woman, who will
use any means at her disposal, (including her trusty sword), to win converts
to the great Temperance cause. To steady herself in this righteous crusade,
Mrs. Bunch resorts to frequent nips of her "medicine" (Peacock's Elixir). |
| Miss
Euphoria Turnbottom (Mezzo Soprano)
- A former Lady of the Evening, saved from the gutter by The Eternal Sword
Temperance Union, Euphoria is now a very prim and proper Temperance worker.
Beautiful, sensual and utterly demure, she walks the Temperance line,
but as the evening grows late, she exposes more and more of her past as
a bawdy entrepreneur. |
 |
 |
Mr.
Jack Wellbourne (Baritone) - A good-natured,
good-looking, well-educated drunk who only joined The Eternal Sword
Temperance Union at the last saloon they visited. Jack begins the evening
quite inebriated. He has "followed the fold" and signs the Temperance
Pledge only because he is utterly smitten with Euphoria.
Sometimes played as "Sailor"
Jack Wellbourne, in coastal towns where naval history can be called
upon for local flavor.

| Charlotte
(Lady Fingers) Magee - Musician extraordinaire.
Nervous type. Easily excitable, but at the same time, is often a voice
of reason amid the madness of the Eternal Sword Temperance Union.
Provides brilliant accompaniment on the piano, pump organ and assorted
other instruments. Also choir director, music teacher and bar room
musician. She is not what she appears! |
